Puma in Chile |
These two animals are medium-sized natural predators. Pumas live in mountain areas and coyotes live in forests or on the prairies. Firstly, I will talk about pumas in the alleys in Chile. When citizens discovered that pumas started to appear on road, the government tried to capture and release them without hurting them. They were released into the wild in their natural habitat. Chile's government is examining the creatures they've discovered, and releasing it into the wild when they are healthy. Pumas are often found in the backyards of some houses while they are looking for food, because who doesn't want free supper!
Secondly, coyotes are found in Montreal during the lockdown. Before the lockdown they were discovered mostly in natural parks. Now they are appearing in urban parks where there are less people in view. They capture squirrels in parks and other small mammals, such as hares, which they hunt in the wild ,too. And by the way, tell your friends and family that if you see a coyote near your home call:438 872-COYO(2696). This will help the city of Montreal make a map of the locations and frequency of coyotes in our urban areas, thanks:)
What we should do (other than to call that number), is to keep any pet food indoors. This will also help prevent a family of squirrels or raccoons from visiting your balcony!

Wild animals can actually transmit illnesses like COVID, rabies, a viral disease of our brain and our spinal cord (or you can say our nervous system) and other deadly diseases maybe even more deadlier than the pandemic. So, we don 't want our habitats invaded by some “wild” friends? Do we? Saving wildlife in also saving ourselves.
